October 26, 1989 Docket No.
50-395 Mr. O. S. Bradham Vice President, Nuclear Operations South Carolina Electric & Gas Company P.O. Box 88 Jenkinsv111e, South Carolina 29065
Dear Mr. Bradham:
SUBJECT:
SCHEDULE OF OPERATOR LICENSING EXAMS FOR THE V. C. SUMMER NUCLEAR STATION, UNIT NO. 1 (TAC 75061)
Your letter dated August 18, 1989 to Mr. Kenneth Perkins of the NRC submitted the Operator Licensing Examination and Requalification Schedules for the V. C.
Summer Nuclear Station in response to Generic Letter 89-12. " Operator Licensing Examinations".
In a September 21, 1989 letter you provided a revised Requalification Schedule and requested an extension in the 1989 annual training cycle from January 1990 until May 1990.
This extension was requested to align the V. C. Summer requalification testing with the new NRC national examination schedule and because training commitments for the Fitness L
for Duty and the issuance of new Emergency Operating Procedures will impact the originally proposed Requalification test dates.
We have reviewed your request.
The postponement of your Requalification Schedule until May 1990 would place your Requalification Program outside of the 24 month period specified in 10 CFR 55.59(a).
If you desire such a change, then an exemption must be requested under 10 CFR 55.11.
You must also determine whether you desire a one time exemption for the extension of the cycle or whether you desire a one time exemption and, in addition, a change in the program cycle such that the 24 month cycle begins in June and ends in May.
Sincerely, f
