' Gentlemen:
Pursuant to'the requirements of NRC Bulletin No. 88-08, Action Item 2, McGuire Nuclear Station Unit 2 piping areas identified in my September 9, 1988 letter as possibly subjee.ted to thermal stress, have been inspected. It should be.
noted that two inaccessible elbows in the 1-1/2 inch safety injection line going into the "D" Reactor Coolant System cold leg were not inspected because of'ALARA concerns. The NRC granted an exception from the requirements of Bulletin 88-08 for thu two pipe bends per a September 15, 1989 letter from D.
S. Hood, NRC, to H. B. Tucker. Twelve welds and three pipe bends were inspected by ultrasonic' volumetric examination on July 21, and July 31, 1989 during the McGuire Unit 2 end of cycle 5 refueling outage. No r< portable conditions were identified as a result of the inspection.
I' declare unier penalty of perjury that the statenents set forth herein are true and correct to the best of my knowledge.
l Very truly yours, M
f
