AGENDA Breakfast Meeting - ASME B&PV Committee and NRC Pipe Crack Study Group Mediterranean Room - Biltmore Hotel - 7:00 AM.
May 7, 1980 Discussion Topics 1.
Should design for cyclic loading be made a Section III requirement for Class 2 and 3 piping as it now is for Class 1 piping?
2.
Should the rules in Section III of the Code be revised to consider the effects of residual stress, particularly the effects of residual stress on stress corrosion cracking?
3.
How should corrosion (i.e., Intergranular Stress Corrosion Cracking, IGSCC) be considered in the design of Section III components? As an example, should material requirements in Section II and III be revised to control and measure sensitization? How can we do a better job in addressing the issue of material degradation in Sections III and XI of the Code?
4.
In determining the material properties in Section II of the Code for use in Section III designs where components are subject to dynamic loads, should testing under dynamic loading conditions, as well as under static loading conditions, be included in to assure that adequate consideration has been given to the effect of strain rate sensitivity on material properties?
5.
Should the Ultrasonic volumetric inspection techniques in Section V and XI be updated to include the latest technology? Should areas other that the ones now required by Section XI be examined to detect early evidence of IGSCC? How can we do more to improve the inspectability by UT of joints constructed to Section III requirements?
