Dear Sir:
We have fnformation which would lead us to believe that certain parts produced from quarter inch plate and bar material could have been I
l manufactured from carbon steel that' we suspect may contain defects.
If our suspicions are confirmed, these defects could render these
' parts unsuitable for seismic and/or safety related~ applications. The parts in question would have been sent to you on or after July 17, 1979 through date of this letter.
The information concerning the potential defect was received September 24, 1979. At this point in time, we are requesting that you determine if any of the attached listed parts have been desiguated for service in a seismic and/or safety related area of your plant. Please advise us in writing by B-Line part number and quantity of each part for
' all items which have been placed in service from July 17, 1979 through the present.
In addition, if you have any of the above parts stored at your facility and not yet applied, then* such parts should be marked to preclude their use in seismic and/or safety related areas.
l Attached is a lis,t of parts sent to your job site which we are currently testing and evaluating to determine whether the suspected defective material affects the performance of the parts.
