SPECIAL REPORT PER TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION 6.9.2d

Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

As required by Technical Specifications 3.3.5.7 and 6.9.2d, Carolina Power &

Light Company is submitting the following special report. .

On March 26, 1980, an alarm for Zone 9, Reactor Building, 50 foot elevation, annunciated and would not reset. The apparent cause of the zone failure is an inoperable relay in the detector. circuitry. Repairs to this fire detection instrumentation will be completed by May 16, 1980.
