Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

IE Bulletin 79-01B required certain information to be supplied within forty-five days after receipt of the Bulletin and additional information within ninety days. The initial requirement has been

{

fulfilled with as much information as was available within the time 1

available. However, we find that we will not be able to meet the "ninety-day" requirements in the alloted time.

We have expended approximately 1600 man-hours to date and estimate an additional 6000 man-hours to complete the report.

In addition to addressing each system that is required to function l

under the postulated accident conditions, we are performing a complete analysis to ascertain the actual conditions and location of the harsh environments. The use of additional manpower would not materially speed up the response time since the basic problem is obtaining the data and not in collating it.

We are currently, and will continue to engage in communications with the manufacturers to substantiate the qualification status of the various components.

Much work is still required to assess and coordinate the equipment supplied by the General Electric Company, the NSSS vendor. We have not yet received their revisions to their " Report on Results of Qualification Data Search for Brunswick Plant, Units I and II."

We do not anticipate any information from General Electric until the end of April at the earliest.

Mr. James P. O'Railly April 21. 1980 4

We are prsceeding with the work required by Bulletin 79-01B and it is our judgment that an extension of 150 days to September 17, 1980, is necessary for us to meet the intent of your Bulletin.

Unless we hear otherwise from you, we will proceed upon this revised schedule.

If you have any questions concerning this program, please contact me or a member of my staff.

Yours very truly, B.
