Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

In response to your letter of April 4, 1980, transmitting IE Bulletin 80-07, Carolina Power & Light Company submits the following information:

Brunswick Steam Electric Plant (BSEP) Unit No. 2 is currently in a refueling outage. The jet pumps have been visually inspected with TV camera assistance using Special Plant Procedure SP-80-09 with no indications noted. The jet pump hold-down beams were ultra-sonically inspected using General Electric Procedure TP-508.0654, Rev. B (BSEP SP-80-13) and no indications were found. This was reported by telephone to Mr. Austin Hardin, of your office, by Mr. A. C. Tollison, Jr., on April 14, 1980.

b BSEP Unit No.1 is currently operating and is presently scheduled to commence a refueling outage in May, 1980. The surveillance requirements addressed in Paragraph B2 are currently in effect on both units as required by Standard Technical Specifications. Due to the satisfactory inspection results obtained on Unit No. 2, the short period of operating time remaining on Unit No. 1 before testing can commence, and our performance of the required surveillance for approximately two years with no abnormal indications, we believe that continued operation of BSEP Unit No. 1 poses no threat or danger to the environment or public safety and request that operation r

l of Unit No. 1 be allowed to continue.
