Dear Mr. Arnold:
P. Kreutzer J. R. Buchanan i
Subject:
Independent study to be conducted by the ACRS (16)
I Union of Concerned Scientists TNI site r/f R.Cc.vrt 1
This is to advise you that Governor Thornburgh has established a
" Blue Ribbon Panel" to independently evaluate the alternatives for venting the THI-2 reactor building.
It is my understanding that the Governor will use the results of this study in his decision making process as to whether or not he would support the NRC Staff's recom-mendations to vent the reactor building. The NRC in separate actions met with Robert Pollard, Union of Concerned Scientists, and agreed to furnish the Panel certain information about the plant status and i
the need to purge the reactor building.
I spoke with Mr. Pollard and he identified the information they will need to proceed with their study.
In my review.'of'the questions, I found that some of them can best be answered by Met-Ed. I have attached for your review a, list of the questions and also a list of the panel cembers. Following your review, I would like to set up a meeting with representatives l
of the Panel and your designated representatives. Please advise me as to the earliest possible date you would be able to cieet with the
" Blue Ribbon Panel".
Sincerely, Original signed by John T. Collins 4
