SUBJECT:

PRESENTATION AT THE 1980 ANNUAL MEETING OF THE POTOMAC CHAPTER OF THE AMERICM FISHERIES SOCIETY On February 7,1980, I received the attached letter from Norville Prosser, President-Elect of the Potomac Chapter of the American Fisheries Society, of which I am a Charter Member. Mr. Prosser has invited me to present a talk on the impacts of the TMI accident to the fisheries of the Susquehanna River. The invitation stenmed from NUREG-0596 and an apparent high level of interest in this subject by the aquatic science community.

Please note that this conference is different from the Northeast Fish and Wildlife Conference at which I am scheduled to make a similar presentation during the last of April 1980. During both presentations, I plan to discuss the findings in NUREG-0596 as well as updated information since its publication (it covered the post-accident period of April-July 1979).

It is worthy to note the interest in this subject by professionals in both the northeast area and the Potomac-Chesapeake Bay area.

I believe this reflects their concern for the integrity of the Susquehanna River and the Chesapeake Bay into which it flows.

I would further note that the NUREG approach and the personal approach (conference presentations) should help in responding to concerns for dissemination of information, as identified by the Kemeny and Rogovin Comissions and the recent report on "The Social and Economic Effects of the Accident at Three Mile Island" (NUREG/CR-1215).
