Following our January 18, 1980 submittal of the prepared testimony of Dr. Morton I. Goldman, he became aware that reference 14 to his testimony (Nielson, K.
K.,
et al., " Prediction of the Net Radon Emission From a Model Open Pit Uranium Mine", NUREG/CR-0628 (PNL-2889) April 1979) had been superceded by a revision dated September 1979.
In reviewing his testimony in light of the revised version, Dr. Goldman found that NUREG/CR-0628 had used the value of 182 MT U 03 8 per AFR instead of the 245 MT U 0(see, e.g.3 8 value used by Dr.
Goldman throughout his testimony
, page 7, and fn. 3).
Correcting both for the revised emission data in MUREG/CR-0628 and the MT U 03 8 per AFR value, the radon emission rate calculated for an inactive, abandoned open pit mine based on NUREG/CR-0628 should be 39 Ci/yr per AFR rather than the 33
- 25 Ci/yr per AFR presented on page 28 (first paragraph, last sentence) of Dr.
Goldman's testimony.
Similarily, the middle paragraph on page 34 of Dr. Goldman's testimony requires modification to reflect these changes.
Enclosed is a revision of that paragraph, with the revised values followed by the original values in parentheses.
These modifications also change the maximum radon emission from the complete dispersal of the unstabilized sub-ore pile at the PNL model mine from 139 Ci/yr per AFR as shown on page 35, line 3 of Dr. Goldman's testimony, to 169 Ci/yr per AFR.
The prepared testimony which we intend to introduce at the evidentiary hearings will reflect the changes described above.
