O Additional explanatory comments provided by Mr.

T. R. Bordelon of Dresser on the weld documentation.

"Under document "31533VX Weld Joint Pro-totype, Duke Power, Oconee Station, 10/31/73",

the qualification sheets dated 10/16/73 (Ap-pendix D-6) and 10/17/73 (Appendix G-6) are not intended to be weld procedure qualifica-tion tests. It should be noted above the title of the sheets that this is indicated to be for information only, Although weld procedures do not specify past weld heat treatment, the base assembly drawing 418463 does require post heat treatment. Consequent-ly, we can summarize this question by indicat-ing that this qualification sheet was conveni-ent for recording all essential variables only and was not intended to be a true weld quali-fication sheet.

"A copy of " Welding Procedure and Performance Record" applicable to welding specification WS-65, Rev. 3 is shown in Appendix D (7 ) .

-) This document dated 11/22/65 is the appli-cable qualification record that applies to WS-65, Rev. 3

" Copies of " Welding Procedure and Qualification Record" dated 10/12/64 (Appendix D-8) and 10/13/64 (Appendix D-9) bearing specification No. OS-39 are also attached. This mialification record is appli-cable to WS-97, Rev. 2 which is the applicable specification for the inert gas weld used to per .

form the seal pass weld. OS-39 is the internal specification number used for qualifying WS-97, therefore, the qualification sheet applies to WS-97. At the time of qualification, procedures were based on essential variables and did not '

necessarily reflect welding specification num-bers.

" Drawing 418463 does indicate that WS-345 and WS-304 are the applicable weld specifications; however, at the time of the valve purchase WS-97 and WS-65 were the applicable weld specifications. There-fore, the prototype joint was prepared using WS-65 and WS-97 Valves presently manufactured are weld-

- t ' APPENDIX D (11)-2 of the qualification sheet dated 9/23/70 (Appendix D-10) referencing specification WS-345 is attached. The qualification sheet for WS-304 is the same as used for

, WS-65 dated 11/22/65 (Appendix D-7) .

"The 850 F. post heat treatment is not.in-

, tended to act in the same capacity as a post weld heat trent is normally intended.

Since relations of guiding surfaces, seats, etc. must be maintained, the valve bodies are heat treated to remove res,idual stresses introduced by machining of surfaces, etc.

This is the reason for the post heat treat. , , .
