Dear Mr. Moseley:
My letter to Mr. Angelo Giambusso dated October 5, 1973 stated thr.t Duke Power Company agreed to close the block valve RV-4 until appioval of the wall t: '.c ness ana yses for electromatic relief valve RV-67 (RC-66) is k
l obtaincd from Regulatory Operations.
Subsequently, further discussions have been held with members of your staff concerning these electromatic relief valves. As a result, Duke Power Company and its metallurgical consultav., Helmut Thie.lsch, Dr(sser Industries, and the Babcock & Wilcox Company 1.:.ve evaluated the acceptance of these valves and submit for your review the following reports:
Report No.1143 "Resolutica of Acceptance of Electromatic Relief Vcives IRV-67 (RC-66)"
Rcport No. 1158 "Evaluction of Weld Joint Design on Soundness and In-togrity of Weld and Base Metal in Electromatic RelLf Valves IRV-67 (RC-o6)"
Duke Power Company has reviewed and approved these reports.
It is expected that these reports will provide you with the information necessary for your revict and approval of the Dresser electromatic relief valves at Oconee Nuclear Station, and that your approval to reopen the block valve RC-4 will be forthcoming in the very near future. Your prompt attention to thic matter would be appreciated.
i Very truly yours, C
