The attached report of a routine unannotaced inspection at the subject
site on January 18-21, 1972, is forwarded for information. Two items of
nonccmpliance with 10 CFR 50, Appendix B, were included in the Region II
letter to Duke concerning this inspection.
The report discusses actions Duke has taken to resolve velding program
deficiencies.
Subsequent to this inspection, the SvRI has completed
their review and Duke has contracted for a';cther consultant to perform
an independent review of the effect the program deficiencies had on the
quality of the velds.
We plan an early inspection to review in depth
the results cf these Duke efforts.
Subsequent to the inspection, it was decided that a citation should not
be made for failure to measure vall thicknesses of all safety-i=portant
valves. No further action on this matter is planned by Region II until
further guidance is provided by Compliance Headquarters.
