IE Bulletin 80-13 Cracking In Core Spray Spargers

Dear Sir:

The subject IE Bulletin 80-13 required a visual inspection of the Core Spray Spargers and the segment of piping between the inlet nozzle and the vessel shroud. This piping was inspected during the 1980 refueling outage using a Westinghouse Model ETV 1250 miniature underwater tele-vision camera in accordance with CNS Special Procedure 80-11.

Reso-lution of this camera is excellent and can detect 0.001 diameter wire.

No indications of cracking were observed during this inspection.

The subject piping had also been inspected in 1979 using the same camera.

The internal veesel pipe welds leading to the sparger were also in-spected in 1978. We believe this inspection was adequate to assure the subject lines do not contain cracks.

If you have any questions on the inspection, please contact L. C. Lessor at the site.

Sincerely,

?
