RII:DJP 70-1151/80-14 Gentlemen:

In response to your letter of June 6,1980, concerning Mr. D. J. Periotti's inspection of our facilities conducted from May 19-23, 1980, and pursuant to the provisions of Section 2.201, Part 2, Title 10, Code of Federal Regula-tions, the following comments are made regarding the item of non-compliance:

A formal program of First Aid training is in effect at the Columbia Plant for shift. supervisors and health physics technicians. All shift supervisors and health physics technicians were scheduled to attend specific training sessions, with all but six individuals successfully completing the program.

For various reasons, these in-dividuals were unable to attend re-scheduled training classes. As stated in the above referenced report, however, each shift has a J

.c nimum of one person trained and qualified in First Aid, and there i

are over one hundred qualified First Aiders in the Columbia Plant.

The required individuals attended and successfully completed the First Aid requirements by June 20, 1980. We are now in full com-pliance with Section 8.1.1.3 of the Site Emergency Plan.

To avoid further non-compliance, future First Aid training sess.

.s, in addition to being formally scheduled, will follow up to assure

~-

that all required individuals have successfully completed the training.

From our review of your inspection report, we have concluded that no pro-prietary information is identified.
