Dear Ms. Drey:

This letter is in response to your petition dated March 19, 1979, requesting that an environmental impact statement be prepared concerning the proposed chemical decontamination of the primary cooling system at Dresden Nuclear Power Station Unit No.1.

We have considered your request under the provisions of 10 CFR 2.206 of the Comissior,*s regulations and have concluded that an environmental impact statement should be prepared.

Therefore, your petition for action has been granted.

A copy of the Draft Environmental Statement is enclosed.

A copy of this decision and Appendix A attached thereto will be placed in the Comission's Public Document Room at 1717 H Street, N. W., Washington, D.

C.,

and at the Comission's Local Public Document Room at the Morris Public Library, 604 Liberty Street, Morris, Illinois 60451.

A copy of this decision will also be filed with the Secretary of the Comission for its review in accordance with 10 CFR 2.206(c) of the Comission's regulations.

Because of the public interest that has been expressed in relation to this action the NRC staff will hold a public neeting in the vicinity of the plant to discuss our findings.

The decontamination will not take place until the staff has evaluated all coments on the Draft Environmental Statement and published a Final Environmental Statement.

A copy of the Notice of Issuance of the Director's Decision which is being filed with the Office of Federal Register for publication is also enclosed.
