Subject:

Arkansas Nuclear One - Unit 2 Docket No. 50-368 License No. NPF-6 Fire Protection - RCP Oil Collection System (File:

2-2040)

Gentlemen:

As requested by your Mr. R. Martin in telephone conversations with my staff, the following information is provided pertaining to the design of the ANO-2 RCP oil collection system.

Neither the ANO-1 or 2 RCP lube oil systems are seismically designed.

The RCP oil collection system, which is presently installed on Unit 1, is not seismically qualified.

They were not required to be.

The ANO-2 RCP oil collection system is of the same design as Unit One's with the exception of the Unit-2 RCP lube oil coolers on the outside of the motor housing. The ANO-2 RCP oil collection system, like Unit One's, was not designed to withstand an SSE and, like Unit One's system, there presently is no requirement for such.

Very truly yours,

b David C. Trimble Manager, Licensing DCT:DEJ:sh 80071603 W usueen ucate soum uriuries sysrev g
