Description of Occurrence:
At approximately 1300 hr "D" Reactor. Coolant Pump seal failed creating
-an RCS leak of approximately 25 gpm. The reactor was immediately shutdown and brought to the cold shutdown condition.

Analysis of Occurrence:
Due to the prompt identification of the pump seal failure and immediate shutdown and cooldown, there was no hazard to the health and safety of the public.

- 10. Corrective Action:
The damaged seal cartridge will be inspected and the cause of the failure determined if possible. The damaged seal cartridge will be repaired or replaced.

Failure Data:
Vendor is Byron Jackson Pump type DFSS, size 33X33X38 No prior failures of this magnitude; however the seal cartridge has been replaced in "D" pump 3 times prior to the occurrence.
