Dear Mr. Long:
With regard to the Deviation concerning the chemical fume hoods perfomance, we wish to advise you the steps taken by Florida Power Corporation to correct the deficiency in air velocity through the subject hoods.
It had been deter-mined that the cause of the low air velocity was the position of the manual damper settings and the fan blade adjustments.
In addition, modifications were made to the hood doors.
In detail, fan blade adjustments were made to fans 20A, 20B, 44A and 44B, and the manual damper settings were modified so as to increase air volume in the effected rooms. The hood doors were mechanically lowered six inches which provided an additional gain in ve1xity. A comparison of the average hood velocity test data taken December 8 for the two locations is as follows:
j ORIGINAL DOOR IDWERED DOOR HOOD LOCATION IDCKrION Radio-Chemical Lab "A" 112.8 fpm 135.8 fpm Radio-Chemical Lab "B" 116.9 fpm 134.2 fpm Nuclear Sampling Room 127.5 fpm 127.1 fpm Pemanent mechanical stops for the new lowered door locations will be incorpo-rated in the hoods on or before December 17, 1976. These actions should bring us in compliance with the design requirements.
Yours very truly,
)
