Subject:
Docket No. 50-3h6 Effects of Non-Category I (Seismic) Equipment Failures
Dear Mr. DeYoung:
his letter is in response to your correspondence, dated September 26, 1972, relative to the subject.
Review of non-Class I (seismic) cc=ponents in the Davis-Besse Huclear Power Station design discloses no condition whereby a failure in the condenser circulating water system would adversely affect nuclear safety-
/
i related equipment, however, potential areas where non-Class I component I
t failure might adversely affect the performance of nuclear safety-related equipment were indicated.
Potential areas include fire protection system piping which could adversely affect penetration room equipment performance.
Further investigation is required in order to fully evaluate the extent of the interactions of the systems involved, and to deter =ine suitable corrective action. Upgrading of certain non-Class I piping within the penetration roo= has begun. Details of our findings, and corrective action being taken, can be submitted to you within 90 days.
Yours very truly,
