Attention: ::r. Glenn J. fanpson
\\1 Vice President, Power Centlemen:
- 'uring the ;iay 20, 1970 seeting with your hydrologie encineerin::
representatives and our staff (AE0 and cor,sultantg), we discussed 2nd arrived at an understanding on the ::ethods and procedures to be used in deterninfng the probable taxi.v2 Inter level at the Davis-desse plant site. To complete our review of your applics-tien, ve need the renuits of your datermination of the probable maxi:au:a vater level resulting from the probable maxi-us netooro-lo,;ical event coincident with 51th 121 a le rel.
- e agreed on the following assuaptions to be used in this deterr.ination:
a.
The probable naxi:nsa =ateorological event vill assume a sustained high velocity vind associated with a larna scale (intense low pressure) synestic system, with a axi:: ass ten-e:inuta vind velocity of 1C0 mph.
- he winde vill vary with ties at the plant sita before and af ter the maximssa (100 mph) as the low precsure e sters passes.
The vind syetesa stora path vill approach the plant along a critical propagetion direction. The vaxi=um vind speed will be considered over a long fetch line.
7uf-ficient calculations vill be made to verify the wat critical fetch line and storm path which produces the maximum storm surge.
b.
The water levela produced by the probable sarim, meteorological event in conjunction with the critical hydrological characteristics that produce the saxistum surEs hydrograph and coincidental veva effects vill be calculated. The surge height at the plant site J

The Toledo Edison Courpany JUN 3 1970 vill be determined by the one dimensional stora surge theory. This storn surge vill be superimposed os a high lake level. The calculation of the r.aximum flood protection level should be based on the raximun surge level coincident with wave setup and wave runup.
In addition, we understand that suf ficient preliminary calculaticus will be made, as discussed during the neeting, to deter: sine that the probabla : 4xt:sust flood from the Toussaint River vill produce a lower vacar level than that occurring from the nrobable naxieus vater level variation in La:re f.rie.
The foregoing information is necessary to enablo us en complate our review of the probable maximus water level at the Davie-3csee site.
Please contact un if you desire any clarification of the ' ore =oint.
satters.
