As a result of inspections conducted by the AT.C Division of Compliance with respect to the Davis-Besse duelear Power Station, we have been informed that both of the steam generators fabricated for the plant by the Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W) contain unnor=alized plates installed on the secondary side of the ateam generators.
La steam generators in question were dcaigned and constructed as Class A vessels in accordance with Section III of the ASMZ Eoilar and Pressure Vessel Code.
Investigations conducted by the Division of Co=pliance with representatives of B&W disclosed that material property tests were conducted in accordance with the Code requirements.
However, our concern is that failure to normalize may result in non-unifor:a properties across the dimensions of the platea in question.
In this regard, we require additional information to substantiata that the naterial properties of the unnormalized plates ara acceptable for the intended design function of the accan generators. The specific information required is described i
in tua enclosure. Your response should be submitted as an amend:sent to the PS,ul.
Please contact us if you have any questions regarding this matter.
Sincerely, Original Signed by R. C. OsY:ung

Since the failure to normalise certain places installed on the secondary side of the steam generators may result in non-uniform properties across the dimensions of the plates, estimate tb a m i n i== tensile and impact propertise in the unnormalized :natarial and provide the bases for such estimates.
2.
Based ou the estimated minimum properties of the unnormalized material, demonstrate by appropriate data and analyses that the placas are adequate for the intended service conditions.
