VIRGINIA ELucrHIC AND Powen COMPANY Rxcxrxono,Vrnoxx1A non61 July 1, 1980 Mr. Harold R. Denton, Director Serial No. 580 Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation LQA/ESG:rab Attn:

Mr. B. J. Youngblood, Chief Licensing Branch No. 1 Docket No. 50-339 Division of Licensing License No. NPF-7 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C.

Dear Mr. Denton:

Section 15.2 of Supplement 10 of the North Anna Safety Evaluation Report requests a commitment for responses to various outstanding questions on Westinghouse topical reports related to analyses of postulated steam line and~ feedwater line breaks. By letter dated June 25,1980 (Serial No. NS-TMA-226'9, T. M. Anderson to H. R. Denton), Westinghouse noted that these responses are not directly applicable to North Anna, but that the requested infdrma-tion would be provided 'to the NRC during July and August of 1980.

We trust that this commitment will permit'yoir to continue work on the Safety Evaluation Report for the North Anna Unit 2 full power license.

We understand, from discussions with Mr. J. Guttmann of your staff, that the NRC is considering performing an audit of steam line and feedwater line break analyses performed on North Anna and other plants, in order to demonstrate the ability of the plants to sa cly accommodate such postulated accidents. We agree to support such an audit, if one is performed on North Anna.

Very truly yours, R

Manager-Nuclear Operations and Maintenance 8007 070 W
