NARRATIVE

REPORT Georgia Power Company Plant E. I. Hatch Baxicy, Georgia 31513 Reportable Occurrence Report No. 50-366/1980-089.

During normal operation, while performing HNP-2-3315, llPCI Pump Suction Source Instrument ET&C, 2E41-F041 and 2E41-F042, Torus Suction Valves, fai Led when given a signal to open. -IIPCI was.then declared inoperable per Tech Spec 3/4.5.1.

There were no ef fects to public health and safety as a result of this incident.

i An investigation revealed that both. Torus. suction valves, 2E41-F041 and.2E41,

F042, were tripped and shorted'out due to an excessive amount of condensation.

in the llPCI room area. The cause of the condensation was due to steam leak-

)

ing around a: defective pressure seal on 2E41-F009 Check valve.. The torus suction valve motors were repaired and eturned to service. The pressure seal 7

on 2E41-F009 Check valve was replaced and llNP-2-3315 was then performed satis-i

factory, i

The 2E41-F041 motor f ailure is a repetitive occurrence as last reported on j

Reportabic Occurrence Report No. 50-366/1979-114.

Ilowever, the cause was not the same.

Plant flatch Unit I utilize the same type motors. There has been no known failures of these valve motors.
