Dear Mr. Ippolito:

On June 19, 1980, a conference call was held among representatives of Brookhaven National Labs (BNL, NRC's consultant for Brunswick-1 Reload 2 technical review) NRC, Ceneral Electric (CE), and Carolina Power & Light Company (CP&L). Several questions from BNL were resolved during the call, and CP&L is herewith providing written confirmation of two items.

First, CP&L will perform startup physics testing on Brunswick 1 during startup from the present refueling outage. The tests to be performed are discussed in our March 16, 1979 submittal to NRC.

The second item concerns Thermal Power Monitors. General Electric has confirmed that both Brunswick units have been equipped with Thermal Power Monitors since the units initially started up.

This feature is described in NEDE-24011-P-A in Section 5.2.2.4.

The Thermal Power Monitor is listed as a

e Mr. T. A. Ippolito Selected Margin Improvement Option in Section 8 of NEDO-24239 (GE's Supplemental Reload Licensing Submittal for Brunswick SEP Unit 1 Reload 2) while it is not listed in some of the earlier NEDO documents for Brunswick-1 and 2.

These errors were inadvertent omissions by GE and have not-affected the results of any licensing analyses submitted to date.

Please contact my staff if you need additional information.
