ARKANSAS POWER & LIGHT COMPANY POST OFFICE BOX 551 UTTLE ROCK. ARKANSAS 72203 (501)371-4000 June 19, 1980 1-060-16 Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation ATTN:

Mr. R. W. Reid, Chief Operating Reactors Branch #4 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission i-shington, D. C.

Subject:

Arkansas Nuclear One - Unit 1 Docket No. 50-313 License No. DPR-51 Fire Protection (File:

1510, 2040)

Gentlemen:

As conmitted in our letter of June 15, 1978, attached, in enclosure A, are the test results of the metal lath and pl. aster wall test as pro-posed to the NRC in our letter of March 9, 1979.

As outlined on page 2 of this report, the subject fire stops demonstrated compliance with the requirements for a 3 hour3.472222e-5 days
8.333333e-4 hours
4.960317e-6 weeks
1.1415e-6 months
rating in accordance with the acceptance criteria specified in IEEE 634.

Also attached, in enclosure B, is the proposed fire test criteria for four (4)_ Unit 1 electrical penetration seals.

These four (4) seals are to be tested as a result of our resealing effort on Unit 1, which was carried out earlier this year, in which all non-3 hour approved Unit 1 electrical penetration seals were replaced with approved 3 hour3.472222e-5 days
8.333333e-4 hours
4.960317e-6 weeks
1.1415e-6 months
seals. All but the subject four (4) seals to be tested were installed in accordance with ANO-2 approved designs.

Therefore, only these four (4) seals will need to be tested.

We request your review of the proposed fire test criteria in enclosure B be completed at the earliest possible date, as we would like to select the lab for this test by July 11, 1980.

Very truly yours.
