Reportabic Occurrence Report No. 50-366/1980-088.

With the reactor in the run mode and while performing IINP-2-315'4, RPV Level

~ Instrument (LPCI) FT&C, switch no. 2 on 2B21-N031A failed to operate. There were no probable consequences and no ef fect on safe plant operation because redundant cwitch 2B21-N031C was operabic.

This is a repetitive event as last reported on Reportable Occurrence Report No. 50-366/1980-87. The health and safety of the public was not affected.

The cause for the switch f ailing to operate was due to the switch being out of adjustment. The screw holding the mechanical arm on the switch plate was slightly. loose causing the switch to drif t out of adjustment. The switch was recalibrated and surveillance was performed with satisfactory results.

All screws holding mechanical arms on switch plates were checked to ensure they were tight.

Surveillance on Unit I instruments had been performed earlier

= with satisfactory results. Calibration procedures for both units were revised I

to verify that all screws were tight before returning instruments to service.

All Yarways on both units were inspected to ensure no other problems existed.
