Docket Nos. 50-338 OL and 50-339 OL Turbine Missiles Gen tlemen:

This letter is to advise you of a change in the infor-mation I provided in my letter of March 24, 1980. There I said that Westinghouse would provide Vepco with the calculated missile exit energies and probabilities by the end of July l 1980, that Stone & Webster would need about six weeks there- l after to calculate and report the probabilities P2 and P3, I and that I might need another four weeks to prepare for hear-ing, should a hearing be necessary.

Dr. John H. Buck Michael C. Farrar, Esq.

June 20, 1980 Page Two Westinghouse now advises that the exit energy and proba-bility analyses for Nt rth Anna Units 1 and 2 will not be ready until October 1980. Stone & Webster still believe they will then need five to six weeks to perform their probability cal-culations using the Westinghouse numbers. I still think four additional weeks to be a fair estimate of the time necessary for hearing preparation, should you decide that another hear-ing is necessary.

In my March 24 letter I said that I would try to clear up three unresolved matters and report back to you.

First, I said that Mr. Schmerling was revising the tables of crack sizes attached to his affidavit. The revised tables, labeled "Rev. 3/25/80," are attached to this letter, and I would appreciate their receiving the same protection as the other Westinghouse proprietary information in this proceed-ing. You will see that the figures in the last column of those tables are very close to the numbers calculated by Vepco and included in my March 24 submittal to you.

Second, I am informed that the letters b, c, and e that Vepco used to code the Westinghouse proprietary informa-tion are the correct ones. Third, I am told that the two figurcc we provided you for the number of operating hours for North Anna 1 (28,260 hours0.00301 days
0.0722 hours
4.298942e-4 weeks
9.893e-5 months
in Mr. Schmerling's March 20 af-fidavit and 40,429 hours0.00497 days
0.119 hours
7.093254e-4 weeks
1.632345e-4 months
on page 6 of Attachment 3 to Vepco's letter to Mr. Eisenhut, included in the March 24 submittal) are both correct; the Vepco number was for the total number of hours from when the unit went into service, whereas Mr.

Schmerling's number was for the hours remaining from about ,

the time his affidavit was prepared. l

. l Yours very truly, James N. Chris tman 126/586 Attachment cc: Daniel T. Swanson, Esq.
