South Texas Project Units 1 & 2 Docket Nos. STN 50-498, STN 50-499 Second Interim Report on the Deficiency Concerns g Welds in the Essential Cooling Water System On fiarch 12, 1980, Houston Lighting & Power Company notified your office of a potentially reportable deficiency concerning reject-able indications on the radiographs of the girth welds in the Essen-tial Cooling Water System pipe. The first interim report, submitted April 10,1980, stated that a review of the radiographs revealed re-jectable indications for welds which had been previously accepted, and that a number of films showed radiographic technique / processing prob-lems.

This deficiency is currently being examined as part of the Show Cause .rcer and will be addressed in Houston Lighting & Power's response to that arder. HL&P will submit a report by September 12, 1980, which will provide updated infonnation regarding this concern.
