Assistant Vice President Portland General Electric Company 121 Sil Salmon Street Portland, Oregon 97204
Dear Mr. Goodwin:
In conducting our review of your letters of October 5,1979 and February 25, 1980 relating to adequacy of station electric distribution system voltages at Trojan Nuclear Plant, we have determined that we will need the additional information identified in the enclosure to continue our review.
In order for us to maintain our review schedule, your response is requested within 45 days of your receipt of this letter.

ENCLOSURE TROJAN NUCLEAR PLANT (DOCKET NO. 50-344)
REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON ADEQUACY OF STATION ELECTRIC DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM VOLTAGES
References:
NRC generic letter to all power reactor licensees, " Adequacy of Station a.
Electric Distribution System Voltages," dated August 8, 1979.
b.
PCE (C. Goodwin, Jr.) letter to NRC, dated October 5, 1979.
PGE (C. Goodwin, Jr.) letter to NRC, dated February 25, 1980.

Questions:
1.
Supply the calculated voltages for low voltage AC (less than 480 V) class 1E buses for each analyzed case. Do these systems supply any instruments and control circuits as required by GDC 137 If so, is all equipment capable of sustaining the analyzed voltages (without blowing fuses, overheating, etc.)?
Is the ccanected equipment qualified by the manufacturers to withstsnd the expected voltages without affecting their ability to perform the required function?
b 2.
Case 10 assumes a tap change (to +2.5% tap) on the start-up trans-former. Was this tap change also applied in the reference e analysis?
PGE should justify this since guidelines 4 and 11" prohibit manual actions of this type for this analysis.
D 3.
Case S shows the lowest bus voltage caused by starting a circula-tion water pump when the grid voltage is at 235 kV.
Since reference e analyzes for a 230 kV grid voltage, case 5 should be done for this lower grid voltage. Give the effect of starting and running this load 8
on all class lE buses and loads per NRC guideline 3. What are the bus and load voltages when starting the largest 480 V class IE load when all class IE loads are operating at full load?
