A licensee representative contacted Region II by telephone on
January 4 and 5, 1973.

Description of Particular Event or Circumstance:
AP&L was informed by letter from the Babcock and Wilcox Company
(B&W) that test reports for several heats of weld filler material
used in the fabrication of the ANO-1 steam generators did not
,

indicate tensile or impact properties. This item was identified
in the B&W Barberton, Ohio shops during an audit performed by the
Babcock and Wilcox Quality Control Organization.

Action By Licensee:

AP&L notified Region II, January 4, 1973, that this item was
considered a reportable deficiency. AP&L management further
determined on January 5, 1973, that this item was reportable
as required by 10 CFR 50.55(e), and a report will be issued

accordingly.
