i The visual inspection of the cell plates of the batteries for starting the fire pump diesel cannot be done because the batteries are cast bakelite and are not transparent.

Also, the air flow test through each spray / sprinkler header cannot be performed because all safety-related equipnent is protected by " wet" sprinklers (no dry pipe sys ter:s).

Because of the other surveillance measures required for the fire pump diesel starting batteries and the spray / sprinkler-system,

~

we concur with the deletion of both of these requirenents..

,/-

Instead of' inspecting and re-racking all. hoses each refueling, a'nd hydrostatically testing each hose at least once every three years, e i you have proposed, and we find it acceptable, to replace all hoses every three years.

In order to achieve expeditious implementation of the fire protection Technical Specifications, Specification 6.2.2.f is beinn issued at

,s this time with the minimum number of onsite fire bricade members o

specified as 3 as you proposed. This number is less than the mininum number given in the generic staff position, Minimu i Fire Brioade Shift Size, which wes an'attachnent to the Safety Evaluation Report issued 4

and when the evaluation is completed, the minimum number will be~' t m

increased if weldo.not agree with your position..
