CRYSTAL RIVER UNIT 3 NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT DOCKET NO. 50-302
Dear Mr. Giambusso:
This letter is in response to your letter of November 20, 1972, which requested infonnation relative to the consequences of fuel densification and its effect on plant operation for Crystal River, Unit #3.
The U. S. Atomic Energy Commission Staff is currently conducting a review of the generic B&W topical reports (BAW-10054, proprietary, 10055 non-proprietary, " Fuel Densification Report") in conjunction with the Oconee, Unit I reports (BAW-1037, proprietary and BAW-1388, non-proprietary, "0conee 1 Fuel Densification Report").
It is our

understanding the staff is scheduled to complete its detailed technical review of these reports by May 1 and that submittal of fuel densifica-tion reports for other B&W unit applicants prior to completion of the Oconee 1 review would be subjected to delayed review by the staff.
It is our intention to consider all of the ramifications of the staff's review of the Oconee 1 report and to incorporate any suggested changes as applicable into the Crystal River 3 fuel densification report to preclude a duplication of the staff's technical review. With the view toward timely consideration of such a report by the staff, Florida Power Corporation will file a fuel densification report on this docket no later than September 1,1973.
