CRYSTAL RIVER UNIT 3 NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT pgujgt:r/*

DOCKET NO. 50-302 go gg -

Dear Mr. Giambusso:

This is in response to your letter of December 15, 1972, in which you requested that we review the Crystal River Unit 3 design to evaluate the consequences of postulated pipe failures outside of the containment structure. Attached to your letter was a document ent d.tled General Infor-mation Required for Consideration of the Effects of a Piping System Break Outside Containment which outlined the requested items of information. You also requested that we inform you within seven days of receipt of your letter as to when we could provide this infomation.

Since receipt of your letter, we have ettempted to assess the necessary time and effort required for us to comply with your request. Based on this very rapid assessment, we estimate that a maximum time interval of six months will be required. At this time, we cannot commit to supply the requested information prior to June 30, 1973. However, we will strive to supply the information at our earliest opportunity prior to this date.

Based on the current construction schedule which calls for completion of the plant in mid-1974, it is anticipated that any remedial protection -

measures could be incorporated in the plant design if necessary.

If you desire further discussion or clarification of the above, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Yours very truly, d,h" Y m.:: \ .
