Dear Sir:
As defined by Proposed Amendment No. 30 to Technical Specifications for the Rancho Seco Nucicar Power Station, Section 6.9.1, and Regulatory Guide 1.16, Rev. 3, Section C.2.b. (4), we are reporting the following.
Abnormal Occurrence as A0-75-5.
As part of the' Initial Radiochemistry Test, trending of the radio-activity levels in the plant systems having single pressure boundaries with the reactor coolant system has been performed. These systems include p\\
the Component Cooling Water, Nucicar Service Cooling Water and Control Rod i
l Drive Occling '.'ater Sy:::=.
C== cpectr= :n:1 greer bet :n:1; :: were perfnrmed prior to May 21, 1974 to establish baseline data.
From the date of initial criticality on September 16, 1975, each of the above systems has been sampled weekly for gross beta radioactivity, -
The first indication of radioactivity in any of the systems occurred in the Component Cooling Water System on January 13, 1975. At that time the-
-routine gross beta analysis detected tritium in the water sample. The tritium analysis activity was 6.69 x 10-5 uCi/ml,slightly above the minimum detectable activity of 3 x 10-6 uCi/ml. The gross beta activity on this sample was below MDA.
The radioactivity has been closely followed since January 13, 1975 and the-tritium levels have increased at a steady rate.. An intensive investigation is underway to resolve the problem. A follow-up report will 1,._.
be submitted when a positive conclusion of the leakage source to the CCW System is determined.
