A UNITED STATES I
NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION W ASHINGTON. D. C. 20555 APR 15 N/5 DOCKET NO.:
50-287 LICENSEE:
Duke Pawer Company FACILITY:
Oconee Unit 3
SUMMARY
OF MEETING HELD ON MARCH 28, 1975, TO DISCUSS PERLIMINARY PLANS FOR INCREASING THE SPENT FUEL STORAGE CAPACITY On March 28, 1975, representatives of Duke Power Company and Combustion Engineering met with the NRC staff to present Duke's preliminary plans for increasing the spent fuel storage capacity of the Oconee Unit 3 spent fuel pool.
A list of the meeting attendees is attached.
In order to meet the anticipated storage requirements for the foreseeable future, Duke proposes to increase the Oconee Unit 3 spent fuel storage capacity from 216 to 480 assemblies. The increased storage will be comprised of stainless steel cells preassembled in 6 x 8 storage modules.
These modules will be bolted to a rack which will be attached to the pool structure in the same manner as the current storage racks.
As a result of the meeting the participants identified the following areas which Duke will address in a proposed Technical Specification change to be submitted in late June or early July 1975:
1.
Structural design of the rack and storage modules-2.
Interface between the racks and spent fuel pool.
3.
Thermal-hydraulic analysis.
4.
Criticality analysis.
S.
The effect and storage capabilities should circumstances require all of the Unit 3 core be unloaded.
6.
Abnormal situations that could arise e.g., a dropped fuel element.
7.
The resolution of any problem arising from our current review of the cask drop accident.
