FROM:

Albert Schwencer, Chief, Operating Reactors Branch fl. Division of Operating Reactors

SUBJECT:

REQUEST FOR REC 0f"4ENDATION FOR AMENDMENT TO SECURITY PLAN - OCONEE Your memorandum to Donald J. Skovholt dated September 10,1977, indicated that Oconee was using a walk-through metal detector which did not have a program for verifying if it were working properly.

You felt that reliance on this detector could result in a lack of effective searches.

We have reviewed the licensee's TDuko Power Company) use of this metal detector and have advised Duke Power Company (DPC) of the results of our review. A copy of our letter to DPC is attached as you requested.
