A series of telecons involving Jack Kudrick of Containment Systems Branch and Peltier of PWR-4 with Duke, B&W and Bechtel were held in an attempt to resolve dif ferences between the staff's calculation of the Oconee steam generator compartment overpressure and the applicant's evaluation.
Containment Systems is calculating an overpressure which is double the desfgn pressure of the compartment and the applicant is
! stating that the pressure is less than deaign pressure. The phone calls were fruitless in resolving differencas that may exist in blowdown data but after several calls it was possible to pin down as built data required for the calculation.
It turned out that Duke never calculated the SG compartment pressure because the new blowdown data provided by B&W resulted in a reduced overpressure (reduced from FSAR calculations) for the reactor cavity and so it was assumed that the SG compartment would also show a reduced overpressure from previous calculations.
Duke has agreed to supply Containment Systems with the B&W blowdown data and then have Bechtel run a calculation on the SG compartment.
It will be at least the first of June before the results of this run will be known and this input is two weeks overdue from TR for the SER supplement now.
If the staff cannot agree with the applicant that overpressures are less than design pressure this item will not bc resolved in the near future and certainly not in time for an SER in June and a July ACRS.
