ENCLOSURE I MEETING WITH DUKE POWER COMPANY AND BABCOCK & WILCOX - OCONEE ECCS Summary The purpose of the meeting was to hold a technical discussion of the B&W analysis and the staff'o independent analysis of the LOCA resulting from a flood line break.
Basically there are two areas of concern.
The first area is the heat transfer used in the B&W model during the short term (first 1000 seconds). The second area is the long term flooding of the core after the transient has been turned around.
In the first area the staff feels that B&W should index its model with the only available heat transfer data in this regime (GE FLECHT data) or do additional FLECHT type experiments.
B&W feels that varying heat transfer in its model has bracketed the GE data.
In the second area the staff feels that it nay take hours if not days to completely flood and quench the core after the transient has been terminated and so the concept of abundant cooling water is strained.
B&W and Duke committed to taki an n l action to valve in low pressure injection water in abs
. einutes after the start of the accident in order to more rapidly cover the core. Duke and B&W were told that this scheme would be reviewed from the operational point of view.
