$1P 1 ~572 NOTE FOR FILES TELECON WITH KEN CANADY, DUKE POWER COMPANY, AUGUST 30, 1972 DESIGN STRESSES - OCONEE UNIT 1 INTERNALS K. Canady called to report that B&W had changed its internals design stress linit from 13,000 psi to 18,000 psi.
The 13,000 psi was an arbitrary 50% of the 26,000 psi limit for 10 6 fatigue cycles like10}ASME). (The ASME data do not go beyond 10 cycles but more cycles is necessary for 40 year plant life and for want of a better basis B&W decided to use the 50% valve.)
~
Acting on the advise of 3. F. Langer (consultant to B&W) it was deemed to be conservative to extrapolate the ASME data at 4% per decade which would giv.e a value of 20,000 psi at 1012 cycles. B&W added additional conservatism and settled at 18,000 psi.
