MEETING WITH DUKE POWER COMPANY

Representatives of the Duke Power Company met with the Regulatory Staff in Dr. Doan's office on February 9,
- 1965, to discuss possible sites for a power reactor on their system.

D. Muller, R& PRS Branch, DRL In stating the purpose for the visit, Mr. Fiss indicated that the Duke Power Company is considering construction of a nuclear power plant to produce 5GO megawatts (electric) and to be in operation by 1969 or 1970.
Presently, they have a production capacity of 3,000,000 kilowatts on their system; and the expected demands would require a doubling of this capacity every ten years.
They have tentatively selected six locations where they believe that a large nuclear power plant might serve their system needs; but before submitting an application for a construction per-mit, they would like some assurance from the AEC that a site the night select would be acceptable from the safety standpoi The reactor type has not been selected, though it was e:,pected to be a light water reactor.

-2 Dr. Doan described the procedures for obtaining an informal site review and the type of information that would be required.
He also described the procedures and the infor-mation that would be required for obtainir.g a construction permit.
Mr. l'iss indicated on a road map the six locations that are presently under consideration by the Duke Power Company.
One location is near Parr (the CVNPA Site); two are in the western part of the state and three are North of Charlotte.
He stated that information would be developed for one of these sites and submitted to the AEC for informal review and he anticipated that we would receive this information with their request for this review in about two or three months.
Copies of the Guide on Hazard Summary Reports which includes Parts 20, 50, and 100 of the Commission Regulations were given to the Duke Power Company representatives.
