Re:
Oconee Nuclear Station Unit 1 Docket No. 50-269
Dear Mr. Giambusso:
Please reference rqy letter of May 14, 1973 which pertains to discussions among members of your staff, Duke Power Company, and Babcock and Wilcox to revise the Oconee Unit 1 Technical Specifications to provide appropriate limits for fuel densification effects.
We now feel that these technical specifications have been appropriately revised to support the conclusion that the Oconee 1 reactor can be safely operated at a power level of 2568 MWt.
Furthermore, our present power escalation schedule indicates that the 75 percent power level will be reached on or about June 9,1973.
However, due to the additional time required to make instrument settings changes and to revise the operating procedures to reflect the technical specification changes due to fuel densification effects, it is requested that these changes to the technical specifications be issued to us, and the po r restriction of 1926 MWt be rescinded before June 5,1973.
