Dear Mr. Moseley:

In my letter of April 30, 1975 a status of the resolution of remaining pro-blems associated with the process radiation monitors at the Oconee Nuclear Station was provided. The purpose of this letter is to provide an update of this status:

1.

Waste Gas Monitors RIA-37 and RIA-38 The modification to permit an air purge to clear the monitors after a waste gas decay tank release and to install a sample line in parallel with the monitor to allow grab samples t,o be taken at tha monitor has been prepared.

It is expected that the modification will be completed by September 1, 1975, 2.

Particulate Monitors RIA-43 and RIA-47 The modification to monitors RIA-43 and RIA-47 was unsuccessful in pro-viding correlation between the monitor and the grab samples.

It is believed that short-lived gaseous activity is affecting the particulate detectors, but that this activity is not affecting the grab samples due to the time necessary for their processing. Tests are being planned to evaluate this matter.

We are continuing to actively pursue resolution of the outstanding problems associated with the particulate monitors. We are also continuing to provide appropriate monitoring to assure effluent releases are maintained within
