On July 13, 1971, J. E. Smith, Ocenee Plant Superintendent, telephoned W. C. Seidle, Region II, to report that earth tremors were experienced at the Oconee site and at Greenville, South Carolina, about LO miles

northeast of the site. Preliminary infor=ation indicates that no t'n-age has been observed at the Oconee site as a result of these earth tremors.

The tremors, which were felt at approximately 7:35 a.m., July 13, were reported to the Duke Pcver Co=pany Charlotte, North Carolina,' office.

The Charlotte office informed Oconee that an unofficial report placed the intensity of the earth tremors at 3 on the Richter scale.

The licensee does not intend to formally report this matter to the AEC.
