EVALUATION OF OCONEE-1 REACTOR INTERNALS HOT FUNCTIONAL TESTING RESULTS AND SUBSEQUENT SURFACE INSPECTION (TAR-186)

Plant Name: Oconee-1 Licensing Stage: OL Docket No.: 50-269 Responsible Branch and Project Manager: PWRf4, I. A. Peltier Review Status: BAW-10051 and Rev. 1 Complete BAW-10038 and Rev. 1 Complete In response to your letter of February 23, 1973, the Mechanical Engineering Branch, Directorate of Licensing has reviewed the B & W report entitled "Results of Oconee-1 Hot Functional Testing, Internals Vibration Monitoring Program", dated February 15, 1973. We find that the report is acceptable g

Thus f O (( degradation was reported after the post-test surfac this report confirms the design adequacy of the re-designed reactor inter-nals of Oconee-1, as presented in the topical report BAW-10051, Rev.1, b

" Design of Reactor Internals and Incore Instrument Nozzles for Flow-Induced Vibration." A revision for the Vibratioa Control section of the Oconee-1 SER will be forwarded to you under separate cover.

The topical BAW-10038, Rev. 1, entitled " Prototype Vib ation Measurement Program" is also acceptable due to successful performance of econee-1 hot functional test. However, for qualifying Oconee-1 as a valid prototype, additional information concerning a meaningful interpretation of the test results to provide the basis for vibration predictions should be submitted for review. Our position is consistent with the agreement reached in the January 31, 1973, meeting with Duke Power Company and B.& W.

The information contained in BAW-10038 and BAW-10051 will be acceptable by reference in Oconcell, 2 and 3 applications.

Je are not preparing Topical Report Eval-nations on these typicals since these topicals are practically unique to the Oconee application.
