Dear !!r. Uylic:
I do not believe it is necessary to add the !!ote 2 suggested by !!r. !!olter.
After revicuing l'r. Ilolter's letter of Decerter 11, 1979 and liQA-1, it is not apparent that the standard requires markings as addressed in the letter.
It would seem that Paragraph 2.3 of Suppleacnt SS-1 does not require marking because it refers to "Darkings, when used." Also, Paragraph 2.1 of Supplement CS-1 permits identification by batch, lot, component, or part which would seca to cover the procedures described by !!r. Holter.
In addition, the last statence of Paragraph 8 of the Basic Requirements (I QA-1) only requires identification "cither on itens or in docunents traccable to the items" and this appears to be the saae as the proposed !iote 2 by !:r. I!olter.
In closir.9, I an not averse to suggesting changes in a standard when conditions support such action; however, it uould also seca prudent thatiwe be very cautious about changing a national standard developed by another cor.uittee.
