Dear Mr. Denton:

Duke Power Company is filing herewith Amendment No. 63 to its Application for Licenses for the McGuire Nuclear Station which is under construction pursuant to Construction Permits' CPPR-83 and -84. This filing includes three signed original copies of the amendment with an attachment entitled, " Revision 39 to the Final Safety Analysis Report." This filing also includes 15 additional conformed copies of the amendment with an additional 45 copies of Revision 39 to the Final Safety Analysis Report. The purpose of Amendment 63 is to update the license application with the 1979 Duke Power Annual Report and to revise the FSAR to: 1) Incorporate description of new Radwaste Facility. 2) Incorporate description of missile barrier around refueling water storage tank.

3) Update description of solid radwaste handling and processing.
4) Update description of station health physics program and facilities.

5) Include response to Q042.73, transmitted by Mr. Robert L. Baer's letter of February 27, 1979, concerning temperature effects of main steam line break.

6) Update personnel resumes in Chapter 13.
7) Update description of operational and preoperational radiological monitoring programs.

Revision 39 also includes numerous minor revisions which were made as the result of an extensive review of the FSAR by Duke Power Company.
