Dear Mr. Eisenhut:

Georgia Power Company, on August 21, 1979, filed Supplement 6 to its application for Construction Permit and Operating License for the Alvin W.

Vogtle Nuclear Plant. This supplement consists of Georgia Power Company's request for deletion of the enclosure building above the 270 foot elevation level (50 feet above grade) based on the actual meteorological data obtained at the site and other necessary analyses and technical justification supporting this request.

Prior to Supplement 6 being submitted, a meeting between Georgia Power Company and its representatives, and the Staff was held on August 8,1979.

The minutes of that meeting have been published by the Staff, dated September 10, 1979.

As we understand it, the meeting, the supplement, and the subsequent submittals have addressed the technical matters that are of concern to the Staff at this time.

During the August, 1979 meeting, and in subsequent discussions with the Staff, Georgia Power Company requested an expeditious review of the supplement and a prompt decision due to design and construction schedule considerations.

Since that time our progress on the construction schedule has been somewhat slower than planned for several reasons and our need for a quick response has diminished.

Based on our current projected design and construction schedules, Georgia Power Company wishes to advise the Staff that our requirement for a decision on this matter may be delayed until January 31, 1981.

This delay in the decision will not impact the construction schedule of the Alvin W. Vogtle Nuclear Plant.

In the meantime, even though we are continuing with the design effort as noted in our August 21, 1979 letter, this delay will not prohibit our ability to revise the plant design to include the enclosure building if it is necessary to meet the NRC regulations, h00l SE
