Docket No: 50-358 Mr. Ear 1 A. Borgmann Vice President - Engineering The Cincinnati Gas & Electric Company P. O. Box 960 Cincinnati, Ohio 4520l'
Dear Mr. Borgmann:
SUBJECT:
CHANGE IN REVIEW PROCEDURES FOR EQUIPMENT QUALIFICATION DOCUMEN-TATION FOR THE ZIMMER NUCt. EAR POWER STATION, UNIT 1 By letter dated November 9,1979 you were requested to supply certain data in tabular form regarding the environmental qualification of safety-related equip-ment, and to address significant aging mechanisms.
f In order to expedite the review of this issue, you*are also requested to analyze the adequacy of your equipment qualification program for each item required to be qualified, identifying, for each item', the degree to which your qualification program complies with the staff's~ position described in NUREG-0588, " Interim. Staff Position on Environmental Qualification of Safety-Rel'ated Electrical Equipment."
Your analysis must identify all deviations from the staff' position and provide the basis for concluding that your program demonstrates that the. item in question
)
is qualified for its service environment.
If your qualification program does not 1
adequately-demonstrate that an item is qualified for its service conditions, your proposed actio) to resolve such concerns should be outlined.
We continue to require that the data requested in our letter of November 9,1979 j
be submitted for staff review. This information will serve as a basis for our review and audit of your qualification review documentation. We further suggest that the tabular information being provided in response to the earlier letter should be useful as the starting point for the review requested by this letter.
Your analyses-and our evaluations and audit must be completed prior.to the issuance of a full power operating license for the Zimer facility.
. You should have received by this time a copy.of NUREG-0588 dated November 1979.
Copies of this "For Coment" edition of the report were mailed to all applicants on January 9, 1980. A ncLice of issuance and availability was published in the Federal Register (Vol. 45, No.11, page 3124) on January 16, 1980. We expect to I
