Dear Mr. Case:

My letter of March 1, 1977 to Mr. Benard C. Rusche addressed Duke Power Company's plans and schedule for implementing a fire protection quality assurance program at Oconee Nuclear Station. This letter is to advise you of our current status with regard to this matter.

Duke Power Company topical Inport number DUKE-1-A, " Quality Assurance Program", describes the quality assurance program applied to nuclear safety-related structures, systems and components pursuant to Appendix B to 10CFR50.

Section 17.2 of the topical report addresses the operational quality assurance program. This program has been reviewed and is being revised to also be applicable to the fire pro-tection program - i.e.,

in addition to current applicability to safety-related structures, systems and components - consistent with the provisions of Section C.3 of Regulatory Guide 1.120.

Implementa-tion of this program is currently anticipated by December 31, 1977.
